Living Stranded

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a project about revealing the uneasy incidents which happen among ordinary people.

Living Stranded critically interrogates the latent and often obscured moments of social discomfort and trauma embedded within quotidian experience. Employing a multidisciplinary methodology that integrates digital photography, acrylic paint, fluorescent pigments, and ancient oracle bone script, the work explores the tension between visibility and erasure in contemporary narratives of hardship.
The incorporation of oracle bone script—a primordial Chinese writing system—functions as a semiotic strategy, embedding fragmented textual codes within the visual field. This interplay of image and text gestures towards the partial articulation and simultaneous concealment of traumatic events, reflecting the inherent difficulty of rendering such experiences fully legible.
Fluorescent paint, perceptible only in darkness, operates metaphorically as a material manifestation of suppressed or ‘invisible’ histories, which emerge intermittently in the absence of dominant illumination. Living Stranded thus creates a liminal prosthetic space, inviting viewers to confront and intra-act with the unsettled spectres of everyday violence and silence.
